A healthy relationship is not to be taken for granted. It’s very hard to find that special someone, and even harder to keep them around. If you’ve found the person you want to hang onto, take steps to make sure your relationships stays fun and fresh.
Trust each other
This should go without saying, but I see too many couples who are always accusing each other of cheating. A relationship without trust will undoubtedly fail, but I see couples all the time who don’t trust each other. That is no way to live. If you and your partner have trust issues, it’s important to talk them out and overcome them, or your relationship is doomed to die a painful death.
Spend quality time together, but not too much
It’s important to spend time with your partner (and not just for things of a sexual or romantic nature), but it’s also important to have time apart. Absence truly does make the heart grow fonder. If you don’t give your partner time to miss you, he or she may start to take time spent with you for granted.
Set a date night at least once a month
When a relationship is new, this may not seem like a difficult thing to do. New couples go on dates frequently, but as the relationship grows older and life gets in the way, a lot of couples forget to set time aside to go out together. When I go out to dinner with my fiancé, I feel just as happy with him as I did the first time we ever went out.
